For this one time, this review isn’t about whisky, but about rum. It’s a rum brought to the market by Plantation and it states eXtra Old. Due to the fact that this is the first time I will be tasting a rum, I won’t give points and the tasting note will be somewhat short.
Tasting note: The colour is very bright mahogany. Pouring it in the glass you will notice the high viscosity of the dram, it will stick literally to your glass. The nose is familiar, but I can’t say what it is, somewhat like praline, sugary, coconut, banana maybe some choco-dessert, crème-brulee or chocolate toffee. Taste is soft, sweet but spicy, some cherry influances comes to mind. Finish is sweet, I think it’s a great after dinner drink. It’s very different of a whisky, the nose is great, the taste is sweet, and after while somewhat dry. Dangerous dram, flows down easy and is very nice. Unfortunately a sample is not so big, this one was 25ml. I intended to taste it twice but it was to good and I finished it all.
I don’t know if this is a example for all the (dark) rums out there, but I know I might pick up a bottle, just to vary between all the whisky’s. This rum is available at DH17 Slijteren for a price of € 55.
